About: Located at the foot of Ciyun Peak, Yunmen Temple, also called Yunmen Mountain Dajue Buddha Temple, is built in 923 A.D. by Wenyan Buddhist monk, the seventh generation disciple of liuzu Huineng who is the primogenitor of Yunmen sect. It is the cradle of Yunmen sect, one of the five sects of China's Buddha zens. It is also one of China's key monasteries. After its heyday, the temple went through a cycle of ruin and innovation. It was notably rebuilt in the 1940s by the great modern Master Xuyun and renovated again after the Cultural Revolution. Covering an area of 12,000 square meters, the whole building of the temple is magnificent. The temple has attracted many pilgrims. Except for the free captive animals' pool, all the 180 or so buildings of the temple are connected as an organic whole. What you can not miss is that two Buddha statues. One is standing and the other is reclining in front of statue of Shakyamuni in the Grand Hall which is made by Burmese white marble. Eighteen Arhats are inlaid on the lower part of the wall decorated by porcelain, while twenty-four Chinese Gods are inlaid on the higher part which is rarely seen even in Chinese temples. In Yunmen Temple, you can experience the profound culture of Buddhism.
