About: Tianhou Palace(also called Mazu Temple) locates at the middle of Huizhou Golden Bay, with an area of 51 thousand square meters. As a historical and cultural theme tourist area, it consists of Tianhou Palace, traditional opera stage, and theme museum of fishing culture. Tianhou, usually called Mazu (literally means "mother ancestor") is the Chinese patron goddess who is said to protect seafarers, such as fishermen and sailors. The worship of Mazu began in the Song dynasty. Mazu is widely worshiped in the coastal regions of China, and also in Taiwan and other places in East/Southeast Asia. Newly arrived immigrants often erected temples to her first, to give thanks for arriving safely. Today, worship of Mazu is also found in other countries with sizeable populations from these regions. In total, there are around 1,500 Mazu temples in 26 countries of the world.
