G5 to promote Cantonese culture and intangible cultural heritage

Entering its 9th year of opening, the Gate 5 Mall (G5) in Guangzhou has extended its business hours from 10 pm to the midnight, starting from the night of September 28th when it celebrated its anniversary of opening.

A special Cantonese opera performance was held at on the evening of September 28th for the anniversary. A group of four men in tuxedos performed a classic Cantonese opera ‘Princess Chang Ping’, attracting many curious eyes. 



According to the mall’s staff, G5 is going to introduce the elements of Cantonese culture and intangible cultural heritage into the mall, offering its shoppers and visitors better experience. Cantonese opera performances and Cantonese songs will be part of the mall’s regular activities in the future.


Cantonese opera is an important part of the Cantonese culture with unique Lingnan characteristics. G5 hopes to promote this magnificent performing art, helping more people to know more about the Cantonese culture in Guangzhou. 



Now G5 is the only mall that opens until midnight in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, where the mall is located. This not only provides convenience for people who want to shop at night, but also contribute to the night time economy in the District.

G5 is a comprehensive mall built on the old site of the apron of the Baiyun Airport. he major businesses in the mall include fashion stores, restaurants, parent-child shops, playgrounds, bars and supermarket. 


How to get to G5: Take metro line 2 and get off at Baiyun Park station, take exit A, then walk for about 800 meters to get to the mall.
