To promote cultural exchange between China and Belarus, a Belarus Contemporary Painting Exhibition is being held in Guangzhou recently, showcasing artworks created by outstanding artists from Belarus.
The exhibition is co-hosted by Guangzhou 53 Art Museum, XO-Gallery of Belarus, and Guangdong Art Promotion Association, and supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Guangzhou.
It has invited eight artists from Belarus, all of whom were born in the 1950s and 1960s, with the exception of one, who lived through the establishment of state sovereignty in the 1990s, it has ushered in a new opportunity for the development of modern and contemporary art in Belarus.
Having undergone the baptism of national transformation, they have experienced a long practice of artistic creation, and under the new opportunity of the new era, they introduce new ideas and combine the characteristics of the region, combining the practical theory of the original Soviet-Belarus School of Painting and various ideas of Postmodernism, strengthen their own concept and form a unique way of thinking and painting style.
The works of the eight artists vary in style from the 1980s to the 1990s, including the art of ideas, pop art, primitivism, abstract art, etc. At the same time, they represent the mature modern and contemporary art of Belarus and reflect the major trends in the development of modern Belarusian art.
For example, Ruslan Vazkovic, who represented the country in two Venice Biennale, Victor Aleshevsky was a recipient of the State Award of the Republic of Belarus, and other artists were active in the international art world, avant-garde artists who continue to inject new energy into the art world.
