Four smart buses, developed by a local high-tech company, have been undergoing driverless bus testing in the Futian Bonded Zone over the past months. Senior bus drivers, Li Yuexia, Chen Juanxiong, Sun Bingtuan and Zhou Tiegao, with Shenzhen Bus Group, have been sitting behind the steering wheel on the smart buses during the test, which was launched in December.
The buses, developed by Hay-lion Technology, are equipped with the intelligent bus system, Alphaba. They have a designed speed of up to 30 km per hour and can be fully charged in 40 minutes. A bus can cover 150 km on a single charge. The driverless buses are expected to solve traffic problems with advanced data sharing abilities, as well as reduce labor costs and relieve driver’s workload.
