Falling on the 15th day of the first lunar month, Lantern Festival is the first significant festival after the Spring Festival. One of the most important activities during the night of the festival day is watching various wonderful Chinese lanterns. This year, the Lantern Festival will fall on March 2nd.
Across China, people celebrate by hanging up lanterns and festoons, making “Yuan Xiao” or sweet rice dumplings and most importantly, admire the first glorious full moon in the Chinese New Year in lunar calendar. On the Lantern Festival night, the moon illuminates the dark sky while many lanterns shine bright colors on the earth.
According to an astronomer from Guangzhou, the best time for the citizens to enjoy the moon is at 0:24:27 am on March 1st , 1:17:38 am on March 2nd , and 2:08:23 am on March 3rd.
