Soon, Doumen aquatic produce only 1 hour from HK

Doumen is well-positioned and prepared to become a green food demonstration zone serving Hong Kong and Macao, while also building the district section of Western Eco-New Town.

This was announced in Mayor Yao Yisheng's government work report on Jan 16, the opening day of the 5th Session of the 9th Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress.

Construction commenced in December on the 56-hectare Baijiao Modern Agricultural Demonstration Park in Zhuhai National Agricultural Sci-Tech Park. This, the mayor reported, is unlocking opportunities to expand the district's aquatic industry.

Costing 2.5 billion yuan ($388.5 million), a modern aquatic sci-tech park is envisioned. It will engage in deep-processing, packaging, wholesale, exhibition, trade, warehousing, and cold-chain logistics.

It also is designed as a green agricultural product distribution center to serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a key intelligent port, and an industrial new town integrating urbanization with industrial development.

Adjacent to the Modaomen Waterway and expressways, the park will utilize both geographic advantages and container logistic services provided by the nearby Doumen Port. After the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge opens this summer, it will take only one hour to transport aquatic products to Hong Kong.

At the same time, 2 billion yuan ($311 million) will be expended on Doumen New Town infrastructure, an increase of 363 percent over last year.

Four centers of sci-tech innovation, exhibitions, tourism development, and business will emerge as economic engines of the Jianfeng South Section. Meanwhile, construction of the Huangyang River and Xingfu River wetlands, civic, national agricultural, and the second-phase of Jianfeng Mt parks will also be progressing.
