The income of cabbies has shrunk noticeably in the shared economy with competition from app-based taxis. However, 1,412 taxi drivers in 44 loving taxi teams haven’t stopped providing free convenient services on certain occasions since 2004. They offer free rides to students sitting for the national college entrance examinations (NCEE) in June ever year, and participate in a series of other charity events in the city all year around. They also visit the city’s orphanage and special schools before festivals. Statistics showed that they have offered 87,500 free rides, returned more than 8,000 personal belongings forgotten in their cars and served 210,000 hours as volunteers.
