The Liwan Lake Library, a branch of the Guangzhou Library, has officially opened to the public on the first floor of the women and children's activity center in Liwan Lake Park. The newest branch serves residents of Pun Tong area in Xiguan as well as visitors to the Liwan Lake Park.
An initial 20,000 books, mainly children's books and those about literature, economy, recreation, health and regimen, have been selected as the basic collection which will be upgraded regularly.
The Liwan Lake library provides the same services as those in the Guangzhou Library such as free registration, book borrowing and returning as well as information reference.
In addition to library services, a baby care room with warm lights and pink curtains has also been established. The room is furnished with separated breastfeeding areas, changing tables, self-service breast milk storage bags and bottle warmers.
The library and the activity center will be combining their resources to set up training and work experience projects. Some of these courses will be free while others will match the prices of Guangzhou Children's Palace.
In the meantime, the center will also invite local NGOs and community groups to set up educational exhibitions. Child safety classes and counseling rooms will also be available for children to escort their physical and mental development.
