Shenzhen-based Donghai Airlines has officially entered the international passenger aviation market by opening a route to Pattaya, Thailand, on Thursday and a route to Dao Phu Quoc, Vietnam, on Friday.

The flight DZ6281/2, between Shenzhen and Pattaya, operates every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It departs from Shenzhen at 9:30 a.m. and arrives in Pattaya at 12:45 p.m. The return flight leaves at 5:15 p.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 8:15 p.m., according to a schedule released at the inaugural ceremony Thursday.

The flight DZ6227/8, between Shenzhen and Dao Phu Quoc, operates every Monday and Friday.

It leaves Shenzhen at 9:30 a.m. and arrives at Dao Phu Quoc at 12:45 p.m. It returns at 6:10 p.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 9:10 p.m.

The opening of the two passenger routes has also brought the number of international routes from the Shenzhen airport to 38.

“The year 2017 marks a milestone in the development of Donghai Airlines, as the company is expanding into the international aviation market,” said Yang Jianhong, acting president of Donghai Airlines, in an interview Thursday.

The opening of the two routes is a big step forward for the company, which comes only a year after it obtained its business license to operate international routes, according to Yang.

The company is planning to open more international routes, including a route to Darwin, Australia. The company has applied for approval for the route from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Donghai Airlines, which started freighter operations in 2006, was approved to engage in passenger services in 2014.

In July last year, the company ordered five 787-9 Dreamliners, which can fly 290 passengers, from Boeing for US$1.32 billion. In June, it signed an agreement with Boeing to convert 10 of the 25 737 MAX 8s on order to 737 MAX 10s to increase capacity.

Upon delivery, the company will deploy the planes on busy domestic routes and long-haul international routes.

Donghai Airlines currently has a fleet of 18 Boeing 737-800s serving for more than 40 cities.
