As the ongoing 18th Shenzhen Reading Month warms up, people in Shenzhen welcome the opening of a new book space. Reading Mi bookstore, with a total area of over 2,000 square meters, opened at Bao’an UNIWALK on Oct. 28.
A cultural salon, themed “light of a city and beauty of a bookstore,” was held on the same day. Hu Hongxia, editor-in-chief of Daily Sunshine, renowned writer Nan Xiang, vice editor-in-chief of Shenzhen Evening News Liang Erping, general manager of Yoyi Book Gong Xianliu and Gao Shaokang, designer of Reading Mi bookstore, attended the salon to talk about the significance of bookstores to the city.
A total of 200,000 books have been put on the shelves in the bookstore, with literature, social sciences and children’s books as the main categories. The bookstore also has books on art, life and foreign languages.
The Bao’an bookstore is Reading Mi’s sixth outlet under Yoyi Book and is also the biggest one. With its location next to Qianhai, it has set up 300 seats in the free public reading area, earning praise from officials, including Chen Shaohua, vice director of the city’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration, during an inspection trip.
The officials also gave a thumbs-up for the bookstore’s innovations in design and operation.
Enjoying a cultural and poetic atmosphere, the bookstore consists of two sections that are linked by a curvy 20-plus-meter pathway.
Gong explained that nonprofit cultural programs will be regularly held at the Bao’an Reading Mi bookstore. They will step up their efforts to expand the shopping malls at each core business center and commercial complex. (Chen Xiaochun)
