Shenzhen Pingshan cultural industry boasts rich resources

Hechangyuan Museum in Pingshan is a private museum that holds collections ranging from Chinese paintings to porcelains.

Pingshan District has rich cultural tourism resources including 73 cultural facilities such as Pingshan Branch of China National Academy of Painting, Memorial Museum of Dongjiang Guerrilla, Guangzu Middle School, 108 culture protection sites and well-preserved Hakka-style enclosed houses, plus a good ecological environment.

The district is speeding up construction of its culture center, which covers 98,000 square meters and is home to an opera house, a library, a gallery, a culture hall, a book city, a movie theater and a convention center.

The project, with a floor space of 111,100 square meters, will be put into use in 2018.

Huayi Brothers Culture City, which covers 780,000 square meters, is an important movie industry base. The 13-billion-yuan (US$1.90 billion) project is being developed in three phases and will be completed in 2023.

By the end of 2016, Pingshan had 24 enterprises engaging in the cultural and creative industry. The added value of cultural tourism industry reached 2.04 billion yuan in 2016, an increase of 3.7 percent compared with the previous year and accounting for 4 percent of the district’s GDP.

The district is forging cultural brands and promoting the tourism industry by upgrading the sculpture arts creative park, building the Huayi Brothers Culture City and planning all-rounded tourism strategies and plans that emphasize tourism routes related to ecological culture, Hakka culture, red culture (covering significant historical sites in China’s revolution to become an independent modern country) and industrial culture.

It will promote construction of a BYD industrial tourism area and turn it into a model for industrial tourism in the eastern part of the city. A slow traffic system is being planned for the Maluan Mountain area, which will turn the area into a national park for hiking, sightseeing, leisure, outdoor sports and nature education. (Han Ximin)
