The 13th Cartoon & Animation Subvenue, or the 6th Cartoon & Animation Carnival, will kick off at the Shenzhen National Cartoon & Animation Industry Base, as a parallel event of the 13th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair held from today to Monday next week.

As a feast for cartoon and animation lovers and a professional platform for experts in the industry to exchange views, the cartoon and animation subvenue will feature the 7th Shenzhen Cartoon & Animation Trade Fair, on which more than 1,000 excellent original works are expected to be launched.

The carnival will include special activities ranging from exhibitions, contests and job recruitment fairs.

Visitors will have opportunities to interact with characters from cartoons.

Cartoon characters made of porcelain combining traditional Chinese culture and “red classics”— cartoons about modern Chinese revolutionary figures and the history of the Communist Party of China — will cover subjects like the Shining Stars, Lei Feng and Little Soldier Zhang Ga, so that visitors can learn more about “red” culture while having fun with hands-on creations.

Themed “A New Dream — New Dream and New Life,” the ongoing Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Original Cartoon & Animation Painting Competition, which runs through May 25, aims to highlight excellent original cartoon and animation works and talents and to promote cultural exchanges between the two cities.

The competition will be open to young cartoon and animation lovers from Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Participants will be divided into four groups: kids (aged 5-8), preteens (aged 9-12), teenagers (aged 13-16) and adults (17 and up).

The subvenue will also for the first time introduce augmented reality and virtual reality to interactive games for games players to have 3D experiences.

Besides, there will be charity auctions featuring toys and dolls and the proceeds will be donated to impoverished families and charity organizations. (Yang Mei)
