A launch ceremony was held at the Metro Building on July 19 to herald a series of intangible cultural heritage workshops in Futian District.
The Futian District Volunteer Association, in collaboration with the Shenzhen Metro Group, will select and bring successors from different lines of cultural heritage and artists into local communities.
“As the summer vacation is coming, many working parents and migrant workers cannot spare time to be with their children. We hope the workshops can be where these children have a meaningful and fulfilling summer, and can also spread traditional Chinese culture,” said the person in charge of the culture and sports development center.
The workshops’ schedule shows the invited guests will teach children about a variety of intangible culture heritages, the most popular including kites, sugar painting and dough figurines. Also children will learn about papercutting, straw plaiting, rope braiding, cloisonné and the erhu. For those interested, they can inquire about the details in their nearby community cultural centers.
The events were organized by the district’s public culture and sports development center, residents’ culture association, volunteer association, and a shadow play theater. Altogether 10 communities will be involved.
During the summer, the district is also providing 59 art and sports training courses, which attracted over 900 students. These courses are still ongoing.
