Shangri-La Hotel Guangzhou Sets Guinness World Record For the Largest Gathering Of Brides

Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou set a new Guinness World Record last week for the largest gathering of brides — 843 — in the hotel garden lawn. The previous record — 748 brides — was achieved by Foyle Hospice in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, on April 27, 2013.

Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou organized the Guinness World Record challenge in partnership with a number of companies with wedding expertise. The hotel offered comprehensive services ranging from wedding gowns, hairstyling, make-up, and video documentation, as well as photography, for the event. This means all participants had little do prepared other than coming to the hotel to enjoy the experience. All they really needed was their own bridal look to take pride in their role in the world-record breaking moment.

Once the invitation message was released on social media platforms, the hotel received a large number of requests to join the event. Over 1,800 volunteers quickly signed up for this Guinness World Record challenge and the number kept going to a staggering 2,200 until June 20. To ensure all participants could comfortably socialize on the premises, the hotel capped the total number at around 1,000. It was, indeed, the largest sorority gathering in bridal gowns in the city.

The participants came from all walks of life and different age groups. They joined the event for a wide range of reasons; some came for the excitement of being part of the world record breaking history, some came to re-live their wedding day, some joined to plan their own wedding and some just joined for a fun party with their friends.

For the hotel and the event partners, the message was straightforward: to bring joy to modern women’s lives with a big party. All participants were invited to put their work and chores aside to have an indulging time with their best friends.

The record-breaking venue was set on the hotel lawn, nestled amidst 5,800 square meters of tranquil gardens overlooking the Pearl River.
