Grain in Ear indicates the ripening of the awny crops, such as barley and wheat, and the busy time for the farmers to harvest the grain. Hence, Mang Zhong also signifies the busy period of sowing after the harvest .
Grain in Ear usually starts at the end of the “dragon boat rain" period. Frequent rainfalls are still seen during that time. With the average temperature of 28℃ in Guangzhou in June, and the high humidity of the air before the thunderstorm, the air tends to be muggy and hot. The following are some advises on daily life at this time.
Open the door and windows for better ventilation in the evening when the outdoor humidity and temperature are relatively lower. Moderately increase the amount of exercise.
During this season, people tend to sweat more. Food that helps to produce saliva and slake thirst, such as lotus seeds, lilium, American ginseng, white fungus, pear and coconut are recommended.

As the digestion becomes weaker in the period, the light, low-fat and easy-digested food such as coarse cereals and vegetables are preferred. Some other vegetables and fruits like the bitter gourd, white gourd, asparagus and watermelon that help with clearing away the heat and dampness are also suggested.
As the humidity and temperature is getting high, people might be in low spirit. With the weakened defenses against disease, people can be easily infected, therefore, proper outdoor exercise is advised to be carried out.
In addition, appropriately increase the nap time to 0.5 to 1 hour would help to reduce the fatigue.
Summer has already come to the urban area of Guangzhou.
