About: Teochew opera or Chaozhou opera, Chiuchow opera (especially in HK), performed in Chaoshan dialect, is one of the many variants of Chinese opera, originating in southern China's Chaoshan region.
It is popular in Chaoshan people populated areas such as eastern Guangdong, southern Fujian, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Like all versions of Chinese opera, it is a traditional Chinese art form involving music, singing, martial arts, acrobatics and acting. Chaozhou opera troupes from Jieyang City have performed many times in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and other places, which strengthens the cohesion among overseas Chaoshan people as well as promotes cultural exchange.
