About: Enjoying a ceramic making history of over 5000 years, Shiwan Kiln has established itself in the history of ceramics production in China as evidenced by the pottery shards with geometrical impressed patterns unearthed from Hedang Beiqiu Relics and the pottery chicken, pottery dogs and other fictile wares found in tombs from Warring States Period(475 B.C.- 221B.C.) and Han Dynasty( 202B.C.—220A.D.). And the kiln sites from Tang and Song Dynasty unearthed in Shiwan and Nanhai also show that Shiwan had become a pottery production base of considerable scale early in Tang Dynasty(618A.D.-907A.D.).

Shiwan art ceramics emerged at a time when the production of daily-used potteries was highly developed and commercial circulation was flourishing. Made with unique artistic style, Shiwan ceramic sculptures have the characteristics of being humanistic, regional and national. Vividly designed and properly exaggerated from reality, “Shiwan Doll” ceramic sculptures have formed distinguished regional characteristics and has a special aesthetic appeal in its bold, primitive and native style that is deeply rooted in the culture. In the past half century, the art of pottery sculpture in Shiwan witnessed a full-scale revival, bringing forth many outstanding artists.
